Our Mission Statement:

Cox Air Care’s mission is to provide safe and rapid transportation, while providing a high quality of care utilizing evidence based medicine for our patients and community. This is accomplished by combining an elite team of aviation and emergency medical professionals who continue to grow with progress and education within the emergency medical services of CoxHealth.

Support for Our Crew Members, Staff and Patients:

Our flight program was the first in the state of Missouri to incorporate a Flight Chaplain for our flight team. This individual was Chaplain Larry Cooper who was a long-standing hospital Chaplain who saw the need to be of added service to the flight team. Chaplain Larry has recently retired, with Chaplain Buddy Liggenstoffer now filling his shoes. We are incredibly blessed to have had, and now have these fine Flight Chaplains as part of our flight program.

Our Program History:

Cox Air Care has been in service since our inception on January 16, 1989. We celebrate the fact that we have been accident-free in our 27 year history. We are a hospital-based, hospital-owned flight program, based at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri (heart of the beautiful Missouri Ozarks)! Our vendor for the past 27 years has been Rocky Mountain Helicopters, then transitioning to Air Methods Corporation through a merger. After approximately 18 years in a BO-105 aircraft, we upgraded to an MD 902 Explorer which has served our flight program exceedingly well. Our crew makeup consists of a flight nurse, flight paramedic and pilot. Many of our crew, including pilots, the Medical Director and Program Director have long tenures with both the hospital and the flight program.
