Vice-Chair, Board of Directors and Board member, APFC
Management Consultant and Grant Writer
Julia Epel Sherry’s career in philanthropy has spanned both sides of giving: as a funds seeker and a funds awarder. For over twenty five years, she has been an independent consultant, providing technical support and grant writing services to a wide range of non-profit clients – from regional medical schools, to churches and prisons, small rural hospitals, urban colleges, dental clinics, and community health centers. Projects have ranged from telemedicine networks, violence prevention programs, medical and dental care delivery systems, historic renovations, to teacher education programs. She has successfully secured grant funding from private foundations and corporations, and from federal and state agencies. In the grant-giving capacity, Ms. Sherry served as executive director to the Merage Family Foundations, a private foundation with assets of $50 million.
Ms. Sherry is also an active community and lay leader: serving on boards, chairing numerous fundraising events, and working closely with donors. During her tenure as president of the board of Hillel of Colorado, she helped lead two capital campaigns which raised over $4 million to build students centers at the University of Denver and Colorado State University. An avid gardener, Julia is very involved with the Denver Botanic Gardens.
Ms. Sherry received a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Michigan, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and a Master of Science in Physiology from the University of Michigan.
