Ms. Barrow specializes in strategic communications, planning and management, and has a broad background in public relations, marketing, fund-raising, special events, community affairs, lobbying, and targeted communications, practiced primarily in nonprofit and academic settings.

Currently, Ms. Barrow heads a small consulting company, operating in Denver as Barrow Communications, LLC.

Until November, 2010, Ms. Barrow served as Chief Communications Officer at Denver Health, Colorado’s leading safety net hospital. She managed a comprehensive integrated marketing communications program, including news media relations and issues management, image and service line marketing, web, advertising, internal communications, publications, and community education. She also participated in government relations and special projects, including events on behalf of Denver Health. She had held this position since July, 2002.

Before her stint at Denver Health, Ms. Barrow served as Executive Director of University Communications for the University of Colorado in Boulder, and was responsible for creating and managing an integrated communications department. She developed a broad image campaign, a new national student recruiting program, and consolidated various communications programs into a single streamlined communications organization. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of Institutional Relations at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, where she managed both academic medical center and hospital communications. Ms. Barrow also taught in the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Journalism, offering senior students a class in developing and managing communications on behalf of organizations.

Ms. Barrow has a journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in political science from the University of Colorado.
